On August 9th, 2024, Huffines Communities came together for a cause close to our hearts—empowering the next generation of leaders. Our annual Bowl-A-Thon, held at Bowl & Barrel in Dallas, was a smashing success, raising an impressive $10,000 to support Junior Achievement of Dallas, Inc. This event was not just about bowling; it was about making a difference in the lives of students across the Dallas area.
The lanes were buzzing with excitement as five Huffines Communitites’ teams battled it out for bowling glory. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and supported this event. A special thank you goes out to Chris Laturno, Taylor Chatman, and the entire Junior Achievement team for their unwavering dedication. Their efforts are helping to build brighter futures for students throughout the Dallas area.
Junior Achievement (JA) began 105 years ago when three businessmen recognized that young people moving from rural areas to cities were unprepared for the workforce and financial management. They created JA to fill this educational gap. Seventy years ago, JA opened in Dallas, becoming a cornerstone of youth education. Each year, thanks to generous donors and volunteers, tens of thousands of students gain essential life skills through JA’s programs. Thirty-five years ago, JA Dallas partnered with local companies to launch the “JA Bowl-A-Thon,” a crucial fundraiser that ensures JA’s programs remain free for schools and students, continuing to empower the next generation.
Moreover, JA of Dallas is also proud to be one of the many programs supported by the Heartland Education Foundation, which serves our Heartland community and Crandall ISD. Through this partnership, JA extends its impact, reaching even more students with financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship education.
Their recent project is the Discovery Center, which brings the real world to students. The first of its kind in Texas, is a 4,000 sq. ft. interactive facility located at the Raynes/Administration building in CISD. It offers students hands-on opportunities to learn essential skills in financial literacy, career readiness, entrepreneurship, and managing real-life adult responsibilities through simulated business and financial scenarios.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s Bowl-A-Thon and continuing our commitment to Junior Achievement of Dallas.
