Our summer 2026 interns are wrapping up, and they covered a lot of ground. Across multifamily and master-planned communities, they worked on engineering plan and budget review, contracts, project financials, and on the marketing side, branding, social media, and market research. What they’re leaving with is a real feel for how development works from land to lots. Here’s what they had to say:
What is your favorite memory from this summer?
My favorite memory this summer was our onsite visit to Inspiration in Wylie, Texas. After having visited some of Huffines’ current projects under development like Lakesong and Solterra, it was amazing to see what these master-planned communities have the potential to look like as the result of all the work done by the employees at Huffines Communities. The attention to detail in every park, sign, and fixture throughout the community truly made this neighborhood feel like its own world.
What is your best piece of advice for future interns?
Be a sponge and absorb as much knowledge and key insights from those around you. The office is small enough to talk to everyone but big enough to learn from decades of experience across different facets of business. Everyone here is more than willing to help and guide you as long as you have an open mind and a willingness to learn.
What is the most interesting thing you learned this semester?
It is hard to say what the most interesting thing I have learned this summer is. However, learning more in-depth about the process raw land must undergo in order to be builder ready gave me a new perspective I can take into my daily life. Every home, store, and office at one point was nothing but land and now I can better visualize how it was all pieced together.
What is your favorite memory from this summer?
My favorite memory was either acquisition lunch and learn or the popsicle social. A close third is when we went out to Inspiration and we tested out the trampoline pillow.
What is your best piece of advice for future interns?
My biggest recommendation is to be proactive. The things you want to work on or be apart of won’t just come to you, you have to seek them out. The most interesting / important projects that I worked on were as a result of me going out and getting them.
What is the most interesting thing you learned this summer?
Learning about why Dallas can’t keep a stadium based on the tax structure.
What is your favorite memory from this summer?
Getting to interview the new intern candidates or working with Michael on data centers.
What is your best piece of advice for future interns?
My piece of advice is to double check your work before delivering it to the person you are reporting to, spending an extra 30-40 minutes reviewing is a great habit to build for consistent quality in a deliverable.
What is the most interesting thing you learned this semester?
The internship required us to integrate a lot of new ai tools this summer, learning how to best put those tools into application was a new and very valuable learning experience.
What is your favorite memory from this spring?
My favorite memory from this spring was getting to tour the communities and seeing the things I learned in the classroom come to life in real projects. Working in the office taught me that every detail of each community is strategically planned and thoughtfully considered. It was really rewarding to visit the communities, see the work that each department contributes, and watch everything come together so well.
What is your best piece of advice for future interns?
My biggest piece of advice for future interns is to not take this opportunity for granted. This internship has been one of the most insightful experiences I have had, and I learned so much simply by listening, asking questions, and being surrounded by professionals every day. This has been one of the most transformative summers of my life, and I cannot wait to apply everything I have learned at Huffines to my future career. I know the skills and lessons I gained both in and outside of the office will stay with me for years to come.
What is the most interesting thing you learned this semester?
The most interesting thing I learned was how to build websites and vibe code on my own. Before this summer, I had no idea how much I would learn about AI or how effectively I could use it as a tool. I had the opportunity to build a virtual golf simulator for Huffines, and by learning how to write better prompts and ask the right questions, I was able to create a website that I am proud of and confident in.
