Developers have started construction on a huge new rental community in Rowlett.
The 650-unit Harmony Hill apartment project will be just a short drive down Bush Turnpike from new employment centers in Richardson and Plano.
That’s why Huffines Communities is building the project there, developer Phillip Huffines said.
“We are very close to State Farm Insurance’s campus in Richardson with 10,000 new jobs,” said Huffines. “It’s just about five miles down the turnpike from there.”
Huffines said that the extension of Bush Turnpike to Rowlett and Interstate 30 opened up the area for this development.
“There has not been any new construction like this in that area in probably 20 or 30 years,” he said. “This is on the very west side of Rowlett.”
Ground has already been broken for the first 326 units in Harmony Hill, which is located at the turnpike and Merritt Road.
The project will include a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, a business center, a swimming pool and a pavilion. The first units will be available in early 2016, Huffines said.
