“Huffines Communities is set to join Mesquite leaders Wednesday to break ground on the city’s largest planned development, which will span 1,530 acres on the historic Lucas Farms.
The Solterra project will add 3,900 homes and 300 townhomes to Mesquite’s southeastern district, infusing the area with housing stock after years of stagnant growth.
Prices will range from $280,000 to the $500,000s, with an average of 1,200 to 6,000 square feet. Huffines said it predicts 787 lots will be complete by the end of 2022.
Huffines said in a press release that it has worked to preserve the site’s history with “560 acres of open space, preserving pecan groves, orchards and pastures that were a part of the original Lucas Farms.
The property was once the family home and farm for Faithon P. Lucas, who owned Lucas B&B restaurants in Dallas and sold produce and food products from the farm.
Solterra’s amenities will rival those of a resort, with a pool complex, access to a 30-acre lake, bike and hiking trails, a fitness facility, a dog park, a beer garden and a special treehouse park designed by HGTV’s Treehouse Masters show. The community will also feature a restaurant, an event lawn and space for a farmers market and food truck park.
Mayor Bruce Archer and Huffines Communities owners will make presentations Wednesday at 2 p.m. before the ceremonial groundbreaking.”
